A bit about me

Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based soprano Danielle Buonaiuto (she/they) has been praised for their “terrific clarity and color” (Baltimore Sun), “entrancing and fluid” singing (DC Metro Theatre Arts), and “ethereal vocals” that reveal “exquisite vocal technique and luscious colors” (OperaWire). Danielle maintains an active freelance schedule, presenting art song, performing chamber music, and appearing as soloist with symphonies and choirs throughout the United States and Canada. Though an accomplished performer of standard repertoire, they primarily focus on working with living composers. Recent highlights: their album "Marfa Songs" is out on Starkland, and they will premiere the role of Cass/Cassia in Pomegranate at the Canadian Opera Company in 2023.

Danielle is a founding member of ChamberQUEER, a Brooklyn-based chamber music series that highlights the music of LGBTQ+ composers, as well as Duo Calisto, her duo with spouse Jules Biber, cellist. Danielle is a member of the Extra Chorus at the Metropolitan Opera, a Teaching Artist at the Met Guild, and a doctoral candidate in musicology at CUNY, the Graduate Center.

RECENT PRAISE

“In the role of [Helena], soprano Danielle Buonaiuto had me enthralled. Her agile coloratura and ability to seamlessly meld a very active vibrato with a clear, almost viscous straight tone was a perfect match for not just [Helena’s] vocal lines but for the piece as a whole. The score is laden with repeated syllables over creative crescendi and diminuendi that create a reverb effect, and I feel as though Buonaiuto was the most successful at this technique.”

- Greg Finney, Schmopera
